Use a self hypnosis trance to find the way.
On a subconscious level these steps become comfortable as if a natural progression is happening. Inertia no longer plagues you and you no longer procrastinate. So long as you have admitted that you “can” and you have committed to completing the task, then as time goes on you’ll take these steps, as easily as you would follow a path.
With trance it’s as if you clear a path through your doubts, your fears and your negative thoughts, you rip them out as you go, as if they were weeds in your garden, and what you are left with is one obvious road to your goal. If instead of negative thoughts to weed out, there are difficult situations and negative people – try thinking about it as a game of soccer or netball, and the obstacles as the opposing team. Let yourself duck and weave and pass and bounce to those who are on your side, getting past one obstacle at a time, but stay focused on finding your way to that net. It really can be as easy as saying “I will” and doing it, especially with a bit of help from hypnosis. I know it and believe it with all my soul.
Did I pass the test first time? That’s the question people always ask and I have to say no. I did not. Self hypnosis is not a cure all, listen once, wake up a different person in the morning thing. I passed my test the second time, that was good enough for me.
Self hypnosis did not appear to make dramatic improvements overnight, not for me anyway, perhaps it will be different for you. I did not at first submit to trance easily, my mind fought it as it fights the effects of alcohol, I do not enjoy the sensation of not feeling in control of myself. So I needed to strongly encourage myself regarding allowing trance and submitting my control to trance and I haven’t even got near to embracing deep trance. Like meditation it is something you need to do often and then it becomes easier. Despite this, results speak; it seems deep trance is not necesary for change and light trance is enough.
If you are easily hypnotised your results may be more dramatic, quicker, stronger, more permanent. If self control is an issue for you then you too will need to work on relaxing and allowing yourself to feel trance. You may be sceptical and determined that it will not work for you without even knowing it. So, imagine someone having a professional massage for the first time, they don’t want to take their clothes off, they’re embarrassed that a stranger is touching them but as the massage progresses they close their eyes and forget these negative self-limiting obstructions and allow themselves to just enjoy the relaxing feeling.
See how powerful a visualised image can be? Allow yourself the pleasure of trance and imagine what you want to do and it becomes so plausible, so much easier. Try not to let it go over a week between sessions, the mind forgets unless it is reminded. Do it often, every day if possible, especially on days when your nerves are wound tight about something such as a test. It doesn’t have to take long and requires only a quiet space and a CD player.
Guided hypnosis scripts for specific subjects are good for helping to specific problems but I used only a general trance with no specific words targeting driving. I just used the script to imagine myself driving. I only used one specific script, that was for the test itself which talked about being able to remember all I had learned and encouraged me. This one also had a variety of techniques for calming my nerves and for confidence.
So, back to the story, I failed to reverse park correctly the first time I took my test, so I had to do it again. Was I more nervous the next time? Oddly not, I repeatedly listened to the test CD and I was very calm. My reverse park was still only barely passable, although I had done it perfectly practicing before my test but it was good enough and I passed. I got my driving license and my P plates. I loved the letter P.The letter P stood for proud.
