Valentines Day - I Feel so Bad

Valentine’s Day is traditionally a day for loved ones to celebrate their love for each other. However, not everyone is in a loving relationship each year when Valentine’s Day rolls around. For some people this doesn't really bother them but for others it can be a difficult day.

Do you feel so bad on Valentines day. Are you hurt and feeling the loss of your partner. This is quite normal and yet it can be hard to bear. The memories of better days are painful.

You don't have to spend the day alone at home. Just because you don’t have your mate with you on Valentine’s Day does not mean you can’t have a great Valentine’s Day. Spending Valentine’s Day with a friend can be quite wonderful. You and your friend can do all sorts of things together and keep both of you from feeling left out on this holiday.

Going out to the movies can be a good choice. The movies is not one of the most popular activities for Valentine’s Day so you will rarely have to worry about long lines or shows being sold out. A comedy is a good choice, stay away from weepies and romantic films, you didn't go out to wallow in misery, you went out to cheer yourself up.

If you really can't face going out at all, have a girls night in. Hold it yourself, organise it all and get the food ready, keeping busy will take your mind of your sorrow and when your friends arrive you will start to laugh and have a bit of fun.

If friends are thin on the ground, go and knock at your neighbours doors and have that cuppa you always say you will and never do. Feel them out about what they are doing. There's a lot of lonely people out there just waiting for someone to take the initiative. It may be the last thing you feel like doing but sharing your grief may find you a new friend.

Has it been a while since you called anyone up and had a chat on the phone, old friends that you haven't seen in a while? Now is a good time to get on the phone. Be open and tell them how you feel. Even if your friend is in a relationship it doesn't mean they have plans for Valentines day. Maybe you could organise a evening of card games or board games.

Just because Valentine’s Day is traditionally for couples, doesn’t mean you and your friend can't go out for a great dinner together on Valentine’s Day. If there is a new restaurant in town or a place you have always wanted to try, go there. You will likely have to make reservations well in advance as going out to dinner is always a very popular activity but if you make your reservations in advance, you can then relax and enjoy a meal in a fabulous restaurant.

If you or your friend are looking for something really different to do on Valentine’s Day, try volunteering to serve dinner in a homeless shelter that night. Holidays can be difficult times at shelters because there may be fewer volunteers than usual. An activity like this can make you feel differently when you see how other people are coping with adversity.

While there are people who make an effort to volunteer on days such as Thanksgiving and Christmas, many people tend to overlook volunteer opportunities on days such as Valentine’s Day. You and your friend can spend the evening dishing out dinner to those in need. You will most likely leave, feeling good that you have made a difference in the lives of others which is a great way to get over Valentine blues.

But you don't have to go out to have a good time. Babysitting for a relative who wants to go out can mean you can have a great time with some kids. No one can be miserable with kids around, they have such a happy nature and want to spend time with you. Consider renting a stack of movies and ordering in pizza. You won’t have to worry about getting all dressed up to go somewhere fancy. Instead you can just relax, be yourself and enjoy a great evening, even after they've gone to bed.

You can even rent a bunch of romantic movies, open a bottle of wine and reminisce a bit about more romantic times. Just stick to the happy memories and don't wallow.
